A portion of Neringa municipality, Juodkrante is the second biggest village on Lithuania’s part of the spit. It was as a fishermen village and undergo a tourist rush in the late 19th – early 20th century. Juodkrante is also one of the oldest settlements on the Curonian Spit. For some centuries, until Klaip?da Revolt in 1923, Juodkrant?, then known under its German name Schwarzort, was a part of East Prussia.

It is believed that the village gave the name of a nearby dune gray, the other from the Black Lagoon, and it seemed that here in the village started to be called a black shore – Juodkrante.

Since 1840 Juodkrante became known as a resort to the steamboats. Before the Second World War Juodkrante was widely known as a high-level resort.


One of the more significant sites are Juodkrante Witch Mountain, ornate wooden sculptures. Stone sculpture park is located on the coast, to Juodkrante walkway.

Juodkrante is one of the best kite surfing locality and kite beach in Lithuania. It is open for all wind directions. Curonian lagoon side is also great for snow kite boarding.

Dreverna spot – it is like a huge training field for beginners and professionals as well.

Wind directions:

N, NW, W, SW, S.

There is a special direction of N, NW winds. If the N wind is prognosticated, there is no doubt where to go – in Dreverna the wind is always 4-5 m/s stronger then it was said in the most accurate forecasts.

The entrance to the lake is great, there are a lot of space for preparations – no trees or other barriers. The shore is smooth, clean. The button is sandy. Xpro instuctors work in this spot.
